Chris Larabee, a somewhat sombre man, dressed all in black, with twin holsters swinging from his hips, walks in. Six other men, each as different from each other as night and day, follow him; some curious about the situation; others hanging back as if to gauge the situation. Except for Chris, they all sit down around a small table - circular so that no area of the room is left unattended - and they wait for Chris to speak.
I'm not too good at this speakin' in public thing, not like Ezra or Josiah, but these boys seem to think I speak for them, so here goes.
My name's Chris Larabee. I'm a gunslinger by nature and a lawman in the small town of Four Corners by accident. These six men here are probably the closest thing I have to a family, and they work with me here in town.
I'm sure you'll get to know them all over time, but as a brief introduction...
Ezra Standish is the one you'll probably hear most from. The man loves the sound of his own voice. But a word of warning - you don't ever want to lend him money, or play poker against him. Both will end up with you never seeing that money again.
JD's the other one who'll be hanging around. John Dunne. He's still a kid, but don't let that fool you. He makes mistakes - no worse than the rest of us - but he's got heart. And courage.
Vin Tanner's the quiet one. You wont ever hear much from him, but when you do - pay attention.
Buck Wilmington has been my closest friend for pretty much forever. That doesn't mean that I approve of everything he does, especially not when it comes to the women, but that's just Buck.
Josiah Standish. Our resident preacher. Make of him what you will. He's a complex soul, but he understands people like no one else I know.
Nathan Jackson is a smarter man than most people give him credit for. Out here, a coloured man as a doctor isn't something that most folk like to think about. But I'd rather have him on my side than any of the so-called "proper" doctors from the city.
Come on over and say howdy. But just remember one thing. Don't ever call me Cowboy...
